English & Phonics
English & Phonics
Our Phonics provision is due to change in response to the DfE Validated Phonics process. We are awaiting the DfE's decision on our chosen Phonics programme after their submission. More information will follow once the decision has been made.
Our Aims for the children:
-To develop positive attitudes and enthusiasm for Literacy
-To express themselves clearly and audibly
-To listen and respond appropriately
-To develop a love of reading and a desire to read for enjoyment
-To become independent and fluent readers
-To write for different purposes
-To understand the importance of Literacy and be able to apply these skills in everyday life
-To take pride in their work
We follow the 'Letters and Sounds' programme for our teaching of phonics.
We use a variety of reading schemes within our reading systems, these include: Oxford Reading Tree, Rigby Star and Lighthouse. All children take home an adult chosen book plus a free choice book. Adult chosen books are changed 1-2 times per week. Children can change free choice books as often as they like. In Reception, all children will take home an adult chosen book when they are full-time and a free choice book after October half term. We also listen to them read during Guided Reading sessions, where we focus on key reading skills.
