Dear Parents and Carers,
As a new school year begins, I thought I would take the time to introduce and re-introduce myself as the Chair of Governors at Sawtry Infants School.
My name is Nichola Alexander, and I have two children, one of whom has graduated from the Infants and my other is currently in year one. I strongly believe having a personal tie to the school gives me a passion and understanding of the needs of parents and the support that we may need. After such a turbulent 18 months due to covid it is important to recognise the impact, it has had on ourselves and how moving forward as a school we are committed to supporting our children.
I have lived in the village for seven years, and support many of its local businesses
and charities. I think Sawtry has a fabulous community spirit and look forward to involving the school more in community activities, hopefully in the near future.
The governing board is recruiting at the moment and looking for all types of people with varying backgrounds to join and drive our school forward. It is a very exciting time to join with our new headteacher and his future vision for the school. If anybody would like to join our board or would like further information about the commitment, I would be more than happy to answer your questions.
Don’t just have an opinion, have a say, get involved!
What do Governors at Sawtry Infants do
The Governing Body has three specific roles; these are:
- To be strategic
- To act as critical friend in the development of the school
- To be accountable to the whole school community
As Governors we also share a common objective which is the wider school community, working in partnership with you as parents, carers and staff to ensure that every child can succeed and reach their full potential. To achieve this, and to carry out our role as Governors effectively, we need to know what issues are important to you (so we remain responsive) and ensure that you know what issues Governors are discussing (so that we remain accountable). That is why as Governors we work closely with the headteacher and staff to ensure that we continue to deliver a high standard of education to our children at Sawtry Infants.
I think that the most important thing to note is that Governors are a team, not a collection of individuals or groups with separate agendas. We may differ in our opinions and experiences, but we are united by our commitment to the school and the responsibility we share for the school’s long-term success.
All relevant information is included on the school’s website. Please remember that the website is a good way of keeping up to date with all aspects of school.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support and to assure you that I am committed to, and very proud of, our school and I will continue working with Mr Robichaud and his staff team, governors, parents and pupils as we all together strive to make Sawtry Infants an Outstanding School.
With best wishes
Chair of Governors
