Following a trip to Moldova in 2010 where I was part of a team running a Holiday Club for the children of Burlacu, Sawtry Infant School has collected loose change to provide the Street Children with play equipment.
So far we have collected enough money for a Play House and Lego bricks and base boards.
We are currently collecting money for creative resources such as crayons, glue, coloured paper and scissors.
Moldova is the poorest country in Europe. Burlacu is a rural village in the south of Moldova. The children we support have been left behind by parents who have gone to other countries to find work. The children are left with grandparents or other family members. The parents send what money they can back home to help feed and clothe the children.
100% of the money we raise is spent directly on the children.
Please take a look at the power point presentation below which will tell you more about life in Burlacu.
