Our Computing Intent - The Roots of our Computing Curriculum
Our computing curriculum intent is linked to our school values and sets out the core principles of our curriculum.
Loving: Our engaging and challenging computing curriculum encourages the children to develop a love for computing and supports them to become confident learners. We provide the children with a range technology and allow them to explore a variety of programmes to personalise their learning to ensure it is meaningful. Children are exposed to computing and technology in all areas across the curriculum to consolidate their learning and deepen their understanding of computing skills. At our school we teach the children to be responsible users of modern technology and highlight the importance of staying safe online.
Inspirational: The children are surrounded by a variety of technology and they are continuously exposed to the different ways it can be used. They can learn to use familiar technology in ways which extend their existing skills and knowledge of everyday use. At Sawtry Infant School we discuss how technology is used in modern day society, both digital and unplugged and we model how to use technology positively, responsibly and safely.
Fun: At our school, we strive to provide an enthusiastic and ambitious curriculum to support the children in developing a love of computing. We recognise that technology allows the children to share their learning in a creative and unique approach whilst supporting the development of thinkers of the future. The range of technology at Sawtry Infant School supports the children to become interested in the subject and ignites the children’s curiosity for technology.
Educational: Computing is a significant part of modern life and we believe the children should be at the forefront of technology to become successful, ambitious and optimistic young people. As technology develops, so does the need to educate our pupils in how to use the internet in a safe and responsible manner. We recognise that the best prevention for a lot of issues that currently occur with technology and social media is through education. By the time the children leave Sawtry Infant school, they will have gained key knowledge and skills in the three main areas of the KS1 computing curriculum: information technology, digital literacy and computer science.
